2009 Accountability Progress Report
Ocean View schools posted positive gains on California’s key measurement for determining academic growth, according to the data released from the state’s 2009 report on school accountability. Students in grades 2 – 8 were tested in spring 2009 under the state’s STAR program.
The API has been the state’s key benchmark since 1999 to gauge public school improvement. Most schools improved on the Academic Performance Index (API), which has a numerical range from 200 to 1000, with the state target set at 800. Thirteen of Ocean View’s fifteen schools have API scores which exceed 800.
Ocean View’s District-wide API score grew five points to 847 in comparison with the state API score of 755.
Along with the API report, the state released information about school and district performance on the federal Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) requirements mandated under No Child Left Behind (NCLB). As a district, Ocean View met 29 of the 33 AYP targets. District-wide Ocean View schools scored 65.8% proficient in language arts compared to the state score of 52.4%. In the area of math, the District scored 70.0% proficient compared to the state score of 54.5%.
As a District, specific subgroups have not made their federal targets in language arts and math for two years. If a district’s significant subgroups do not meet the targets for two consecutive years, they become a Program Improvement District - English | Spanish
