OVSD-OVTA Negotiations Update
by Alan Rasmussen, Ed.D., Superintendent
February 25, 2010
We have had four negotiation sessions with OVTA and our next session is scheduled for March 3, 2010. As everyone is aware, we must identify $5.5 million in reductions from our budget for the coming school year. I have been impressed with the positive discussions in the negotiation sessions and believe that we are all working as a team to address the Draconian reductions to our funding that are continuing into this second year of the state's fiscal crisis.
We have reached some conceptual agreements with OVTA on contractual issues and we are still in the process of discussing our interests on articles still unresolved. I cannot predict the outcome of our negotiations but I know there is a 100 percent effort on both sides to come to an agreeable solution for our students and staff.
Current Proposals as of March 3, 2010
Moving forward we will keep at the forefront our guiding principles:
- Ensure a quality instructional program for students
- Minimize the impact to staff
- Maintain a balanced budget over the next three years.
