Beth Norton - Elementary Teacher of the Year - 2011

Congratulations to Ocean View Teachers of the Year for 2011

Alan G. Rasmussen, Ed.D., Superintendent

Each year it is my pleasure to announce Ocean View School District’s Teachers of the Year with their Awards. This year the winning teachers were paid a surprise visit at their school by the President of the Board of Trustees, Mrs. Tracy Pellman, and District Administration for the announcement. It is always wonderful to see their reactions as the unsuspecting teacher is applauded by their fellow teachers as well!

Beth Norton - Elementary Teacher of the Year

Beth Norton has worked in Ocean View School District for 29 years. Beth is an energetic and resourceful teacher. She began the first ten years of her career as a 7th and 8th grade Language Arts/Literature teacher at both Park View and Harbour View Schools before transitioning to Sun View as a primary teacher.

Beth Norton’s numerous contributions to Ocean View’s high standards have always extended beyond her classroom walls. She was instrumental in establishing the District’s strong foundation in literacy through her leadership with “Great Expectations,” a four-year district-wide staff development plan that focused on early literacy. Beth has served as a trainer of trainers, providing staff with effective reading intervention programs and strategies across the curriculum.

Beth’s true gift is her ability to understand how kids learn and her ability to use effective instructional strategies and assessments to ensure every child succeeds.

Nancy Strole - Middle School Teacher of the Year

Nancy Strole has been a special education teacher in Ocean View for over thirty years. She is a dynamic instructor dedicated to students with special needs. Nancy works tirelessly advocating placement of students in the least restrictive environments possible. She has developed a nurturing environment while encouraging each student to achieve academically, emotionally and socially. Her students face many obstacles, but Nancy gives them the tools to navigate the world.

Nancy Strole is a member of the Vista View Middle School CalSTAT Leadership Team and is a district area mentor and trainer for the Language! curriculum. Even though Nancy views herself as technologically challenged, she realizes the transformational potential for her students and has become an Orange County leader in integrating technology in Special Education classrooms.

Nancy moves effortlessly through the gauntlet of students’ severe physical, academic and emotional disabilities and is a beloved mentor to new special education teachers.

Beth Norton is Ocean View’s candidate for Orange County 2011 Teacher of the Year. Finalists will attend a Teacher of the Year Banquet and Recognition Ceremony at the Disneyland Hotel in the fall.
